A traditional and devotional folk dance, performed in worship of the Hindu god Lord Murugan especially during festivals. It involves devotees called ‘Kavadi Bearers’ who carry an ornate, heavy decorated burden on their shoulders symbolizing a spiritual or physical burden they are offering up in return of blessing, healing or to fulfill a vow.
